How to prepare your Reno home for listing photos
A room-by-room preparation checklist for Reno-area sellers and agents before a real estate photography appointment.

The camera sees every cable, countertop appliance, and crowded corner. A little preparation gives the rooms room to breathe — and helps the photographs reflect the home rather than the work left to do.
Start with the whole house
Walk through the home as if you have never been there before. Open blinds consistently, replace burned-out bulbs, hide cords, and move personal or sensitive items out of view. Clean windows and mirrors; they matter especially when natural light is a feature.
- Clear entryways and pathways between rooms.
- Put away pet bowls, litter boxes, and cleaning supplies.
- Check every visible light fixture and close toilet lids.
Living spaces and bedrooms
Aim for calm, not empty. Straighten cushions, simplify shelves, smooth bedding, and make sure furniture does not block the natural flow of the room. If a space has a window view, clear the immediate area around it so the composition can include both the room and its outlook.
- Remove remotes, chargers, toys, and stacked mail.
- Make beds with simple, even linens.
- Keep nightstands to one or two intentional items.
Kitchen, baths, and outside
Counters tell buyers how much usable space they have. Clear them enough to show that space, leaving a small number of considered objects if desired. Wipe fixtures and glass. Outside, move cars, bins, hoses, and yard equipment before exterior or aerial photographs. In Reno and Tahoe, check for seasonal dust, snow piles, or muddy paths and address what you can safely tidy.
- Remove fridge magnets and countertop clutter.
- Fold towels and put away toiletries.
- Open garage doors only if the garage itself is being photographed.
What not to change
Do not conceal material defects or expect editing to remove permanent features. The best preparation makes the home's actual condition clear and welcoming. Ask your agent what must remain visible for accurate listing disclosure.
Prepare for clarity, not perfection: show the space a buyer can actually expect to see.
